Letter: S s

Under
Construction

Uneven ground ahead!

“Ssss,” hissed the sneaky snake
As Satan started tempting Eve.
The snake casts doubts on God’s commands:
“God’s unfair,” the serpent says,
“To refuse for use those special fruits.
You surely shall not die but see,
Both rights and wrongs with eyes unclosed--
So you shall be as wise as he.”
Thus he decieves his prey with lies.

Eve sees, desires the fruits to taste,

Grasps and eats, with excited haste;

As Adam, standing by her side,

Watches, delights, with thirsting eyes;

She gives, he takes, and so he eats.

These sinners--whose pride desires to be

As God, deciding what seems right--

Soon stand downcast, smeared with guilt;

Their conscience smarts, they sense their sin,

So fig leaves sew to shroud their shame.

As sun sinks slowly in the west,

So steals the sound of silent strolling

As God seeks fellowship with who? sinners?

So summons he the slinking pair,

Shivering, sulking through the trees.

“I was scared from self-disgust,”

Adam swiftly states; “’Twas she

(His fingers point) “whom you gave me,

She said, ‘Let’s eat.’”  But what is this?

She also blames--the serpent who deceives.

God’s sorely displeased: the serpent he curses.

And woman bears this consequence:

She aches as she gives birth to kids

Since also shall they disobey and sin.

Yet from her seed a Savior shall rise

To smite and crush the serpent’s skull.

Because of man God curses the soil;

Thorns and thistles shall spring up and spread,

And so he shall eat by the sweat of his face.

He struggles and strains all his short days,

’Til shattered he sleeps, and to dust he returns.

Then sends God this twosome out east of Eden:

And as sally forth these sinners two,

So sorrow spreads throughout the land.

Yet Adam calls his wife’s name Eve:

For the ‘living’ source of all the living.

And God himself makes clothes of skins

Instead of leaves to cover them;

A sign--the first--of the sacrifice:

That he shall give himself on the cross

To save them from their sins.

/bə bə bə bə/ 'b'

The Bible is the best book.
We’d best obey and take a look
before beginning to be bad,
else we make God very sad.

/Bə Bə Bə Bə/ 'B'

Listen for the /b/ sound in this rhyme:

  • Can you pick out which words have the /b/ sound?
  • Which ones have /b/ at the beginning?
  • Which one has /b/ in the middle?

B b

Look at the big and little letters 'B' and 'b':

  • How many loops does the capital/big 'B' have?
  • How many loops does the lowercase/small 'b' have?
  • Are the loops for big and little 'B' on the same side?
Note to Reader The first and last lines should be read using the sound /b/ repeated 4 times, followed by reading the letter name. Talk about both the sound and the name of the letter 'b' and its symbols.
Scripture But as for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed, knowing those from whom you learned, and that from childhood you have known the sacred Scriptures, which are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
