-an Family Words
All these words are members of the -an family.  They all sound alike at the end.  Let's practice sounding out and blending these words.  Remember, when you see 'a, n', try to blend the family name to get /ăn/ on the first try.  This will get you reading much faster!

Here we go!

Now we're going to read some names.  Remember:

Dan

Dan is sometimes short for Daniel--remember the lion's den! (Daniel 6)

Now let's get some girls' names:

Jan

Nan

The next one has another doubled letter at the end.  Remember the rule:

Ann
