In order to read start reading many sentences, we'll need a few extra
words that aren't part of the -at family.
You will learn some of these words quickly as sight words.
You will learn to recognize them by sight for now, without sounding
the words out.
These are some words we use all the time.
We'll learn their families later!
Sight words will be printed in gray at first when they
are used.
The first sight word is made of a single letter:

This is pronounced /ā/, just like the
name of the letter. Or, sometimes we just say /ə/,
but you'll recognize it either way. We use this word when we say "a cat"
or "a rat."
The next word is used in the middle of lots of sentences:

We use this word when we say: "That is a cat."
And the last sight word tells you that something is sitting on
something:
