Daniel and
the Lion

Note You may want to read directly from Daniel 6 (or read a storybook version of "Daniel and the Lions' Den") along with the following story. Remind your child that this is a fanciful story, and we don't know any details of what happened in the lions' den that night. All we know is what Daniel told the king: "My God sent His angel and shut the lions' mouths" (6.22). (In addition, we can surmise that the lions were very hungry, because it was something much more substantial than rats that they ate--6.23-24.)

A man. A pit. A cat.

That man is Dan.

That is a tan cat. The cat is not fat.

The cat ran at the man. Is that Dan? It is.

Dan sat. The tan cat that is not fat sat on a can. Dan sat on a mat. The cat sat with Dan. Dan sat with the cat.

Can the cat sit with Dan on the mat? Can the cat that is not fat fit on the mat? The cat can fit on the mat. Dan can sit on the mat with the cat that is not fat.

Can Dan pat that cat? Dan can pat the tan cat that can sit on the mat.

A rat is in the pit! That is a fat rat. The cat ran at the rat. The cat bit the rat. That is it with the rat.
